Dr. Frank Cammisa, is Chief Emeritus of the Spine Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery (“HSS”) and Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He specializes in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders with a focus on minimally invasive surgery, microsurgery, athletic spinal injuries and motion preserving procedures. He is the founder of the Spine Care Institute and the Integrated Spine Research Program at HSS.
Dr. Cammisa has published over 200 research papers, presented more than 400 scientific presentations, and co-authored more than 30 chapters in medical text-books. He is the recipient of many awards including honors from the North American Spine Society (“NASS”) and the Scoliosis Research Society (“SRS”). Dr. Cammisa is also consistently recognized by New York Magazine and by Castle Connolly’s as a top surgeon. He serves on the Medical Staff of the NFL’s New York Giants and is a consultant in spinal surgery to the NHL’s Platers Association (NHLPA) and the NBA’s New York Knicks.
Dr. Cammisa completed his fellowship in spinal surgery at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Medical Center, his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and his general surgery residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Columbia University and his undergraduate degree from Tufts University.
